Welcome

We are EXPANDING!

We are pleased to share that Remembering Srebrenica Scotland is extending its scope of work.

From 1 April 2024, the charity will broaden its purpose and the geographic scope of education work to include events which took place in the lead up to, during and after the 1992-1995 war across the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

From today the charity will be known as Beyond Srebrenica.

Less than 30 years ago, the Bosnian war ripped apart a multi-ethnic country in the heart of Europe. 100,000 people were killed. No village, town or family was unaffected. The single worst atrocity happened in the town of Srebrenica in July 1995. Over 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were systematically murdered by Serb forces. This genocide was the worst atrocity in Europe since the Holocaust.Genocide does not happen overnight. Politicians and others spread fear and hatred, breaking apart decades of trust in communities, turning neighbour against neighbour. In Bosnia, and many other places, the world did too little, too late to prevent or stop this. Beyond Srebrenica is a charity that promotes awareness of the Srebrenica genocide and and wider atrocities against the Bosnian population. We stand with the survivors and learn from their experience to help create a better and safer world.

What We Do

The charity’s purposes are to advance education on the Srebrenica Genocide and wider atrocities against the Bosnian population and to advance citizenship, reconciliation and religious and racial harmony and to promote equality and diversity by tackling hatred and intolerance, and helping to build a better, safer and more cohesive society, and in furtherance of these purposes:

  1. To promote the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of race, ethnicity or religion by raising the awareness of the public in Scotland concerning the causes and effects of hatred, intolerance and prejudice in society including the impact of the Srebrenica Genocide and other acts of systematic discrimination which have led, or had the potential to lead, to genocide.
  2. To raise awareness in Scotland of the Srebrenica Genocide and wider atrocities against the Bosnian population through visits, engagement, education, media and events.
  3. To commemorate key dates and events from the Bosnian War such as the Srebrenica Genocide.
  4. To arrange for delegates from Scotland to visit Bosnia and thereafter raise awareness in Scotland of the Srebrenica genocide and wider atrocities against the Bosnian population.
